Location: UK Home Based / London Hub or Scotland with regular travel to Supply Chain / Bottling Plant, South Lumley Street, Grangemouth, FK3 8NF or Whyte and Mackay Head Office, St Vincent Plaza, 319 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, G2 5RG.
We’re open to talent located anywhere in the UK ensuring access to a network that enables regular travel to Scotland.

Contract: Full Time / Permanent - Monday to Thursday, 08:30am – 5pm & Friday, 08:30 – 13:30 (35 hours p/w).

What the opportunity looks like:
While the role is based in Scotland, we offer flexibility and are open for remote work or for the role to be based at our London hub. However, if you are located outside Scotland, you will be required to spend significant time in Scotland during the induction period to build relationships and understand the role. We will then agree on a flexible home working arrangement, with regular travel to Scotland to stay connected with the team and stakeholders.
Reporting to the Supply Chain & Bottling Director, the Customs & Excise Manager is responsible for leading the implementation of Customs and Excise regulations globally, providing a reference point on all matters relating to compliance with HMRC rules and obligations and to ensure these are applied accordingly across the sites.
The role is responsible for controlling and monitoring all processes, procedures and reporting of Cased and Bulk stocks across all sites to ensure full company compliance to all UK and EC regulations and legislation.
The Customs & Excise Manager will lead, motivate and develop the C&E team to positively raise the profile and knowledge within the business and support stakeholders across supply chain, distilling and finance.
- Lead, motivate and inspire the team to achieve personal development, continuous improvement and ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure the relevant policies, processes and systems are in place and maintained in order for the company to be compliant within the taxation requirements surrounding customs and excise regulations.
- Manage the relationship with HMRC in addition to other key stakeholders.
- Undertake continuous analysis of the regulatory environment, with particular regard to trade tariffs/ duties and trade restrictions/ requirements and communicating them to stakeholders in a clear and concise way.
- Liaise with relevant departments on matters regarding security of product, warehouse stocks, despatching procedures or staff working in an Excise environment.
- Oversee all company submissions to HMRC always ensuring that they are timely and accurate.
- Collaborate and provide regular and timely communication and KPI performance information to the business, highlighting trends, risk and opportunities for improvement.
Skills and experience that will help you be a success:
For this role we're looking for:
- Significant experience gained within a HMRC or excise role preferably in a risk based FMCG / Manufacturing environment.
- Excellent working knowledge of HMRC legislation applicable to Customs & Excise approved sites with experience of working in a duty suspended and duty paid environment.
- Customs & Excise certified qualifications preferable (i.e. UK Customs Academy, Institute of Export).
- Detailed knowledge of Excise reporting procedures, HMRC systems e.g. NES, EMCS .
- Strong organisation skills with the ability to respond within strict and challenging deadlines.
- Previous experience of leading initiatives to drive improvements.
