Contract:  Full Time / Permanent - Monday to Thursday, 08:30am – 5pm & Friday, 08:30 – 13:30 (35 hours p/w.

What the opportunity looks like:

The Legal Counsel will support the Legal Manager and be responsible for assisting with all corporate governance and commercial legal needs of the business. In addition, the Legal Counsel will be the primary point of contact for various teams in the business including Commercial, Marketing and Procurement.

• Provide guidance and assist in influencing the business to ensure implementation of legal best practice.
• Provide advice, guidance and training with special regard to compliance matters within the regulations and controls which govern the manufacturing, marketing and sale of Scotch Whisky.
• Provide legal support and general advice to all functions of the business including HR, Brand Teams, Sales, Production, Procurement, Finance and Logistics.
• Work with external legal and business advisors to ensure access to specialist or expert advice and high level input to project teams.
• Ensuring that our brands are sufficiently protected in different jurisdictions through having the appropriate trademarks in place.

Skills and experience that will help you be a success:

For this role we're looking for:

• Qualified Solicitor with the right to practice as a Solicitor within Scotland.
• Member of a UK Law Society.
• Previous experience in an in-house legal department is preferred but not essential.
• Demonstrable experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
