What you can expect from us
At Whyte & Mackay, we embrace innovation in all areas of our business, including how we attract and hire great people. As part of our recruitment process, we use AI-enabled tools such as our recruitment system’s (Teamtailor) AI Copilot to support our hiring teams in delivering a more efficient and consistent candidate experience.
How we use AI
Support, not substitution: AI is used to assist with tasks like drafting job descriptions, managing candidate communications, and identifying potential matches based on role requirements.
Human-led decisions: All hiring decisions are made by people. AI does not screen out candidates, make final selections, or replace human judgment at any stage of the process.
Efficiency and fairness: AI helps us streamline administrative tasks so our hiring teams can focus more time on meaningful engagement with candidates.
Our commitment
We are committed to using AI responsibly, transparently, and in a way that aligns with our values. We believe technology should enhance, not replace, the human connection that’s at the heart of great hiring.
We also recognise that candidates may use AI tools to support their applications. When used appropriately, this can demonstrate initiative and digital fluency. What matters most to us is authenticity, intent, and the ability to bring your real self and your best thinking to the table.
-
If you’re not bringing your real self to the table, how do you expect to sit at it?
What we expect from you
Let’s talk about AI in recruitment. Yes, it’s clever. Yes, it’s everywhere. But no, it’s not a stand-in for you.
✅ What We Accept (AI as a Sidekick, Not a Stunt Double):
Spellcheckers, grammar tools, and formatting assistants: Go ahead, let AI tidy up your CV. Typos shouldn’t be your downfall.
Career site optimisers: If you used AI to help tailor your application to our values or mission—great. That’s research, not deception.
Practice tools: Want to rehearse interview questions with a chatbot? Knock yourself out. Just don’t bring the bot to the actual interview.
❌ What We Don’t Accept (AKA: The “Nice Try” List):
AI-generated CVs or cover letters that read like a TED Talk written by a toaster. If it doesn’t sound like you, it’s not you.
Deepfake avatars or voice modulation in video interviews. This isn’t Black Mirror—it’s a job interview.
Prompted or scripted answers during live or recorded interviews. If ChatGPT is whispering in your ear, we’ll know. And no, we’re not impressed.
AI-assisted assessments, where you’re outsourcing your thinking. If you can’t solve the problem yourself, how will you solve it on the job?
🎯 Why It Matters
We’re hiring you, not your AI companion. If you use tech to hide your weaknesses, you’re also hiding your strengths. And if you can’t show up authentically now, how will you show up when the pressure’s on?
We’re not here to catch you out—we’re here to find the best people for the job. But if you’re using AI to fake your way through the process, you’re not just cheating us. You’re cheating yourself out of a role you might actually be great at.
🥃 Final Word
Bring your best self. Not your best prompt. We’ll take real over artificial every time.
